Train with us

Pontypool Phoenix Runners First Event at Bryn Bach Parc- Hospice of the Valleys 10k Run

We train three evenings a week. All runs start at Pontypool Active Living Centre. Included in this training will be a group focussed on returning to running after injury or a prolonged period of time away, for more details, please keep an eye on Facebook. The current training (when restrictions allow) is as follows:

  • Monday: 1815- 2, 3 and 4 mile run

  • Wednesday: 1815 - 2, 3 and 4 mile run

  • Thursday: 1800 - runs are dependent on numbers

All runners go at their own pace and there are regroups, run backs and a tail leader so that no one is left behind.

When group running returns, we will be operating a booking on system using the events function on Facebook. If you don't have access to Facebook, please contact us using the 'Contact' tab and we'll be happy to advise you how and when you can book onto a run.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

We would please strongly encourage runners to carry ICE (In case of emergency) details upon their person during sessions whether as a laminated card or a parkrun wristband or card.

Winter

During the winter months, it is ESSENTIAL that runners please bring along a head or chest torch and wear reflective clothing to runs. This is so important to be seen by others, most crucially cars and so that you can see the path that you are taking. We want everyone to be safe and we do our best to plan routes as well as we can to avoid extremely dark areas and places without pavements, but sometimes this cannot be avoided.

Covid-19

During the pandemic, whilst restrictions are in place and also in the future, we would please ask that you:

  • DO NOT come to runs if you have one or more of the following symptoms:

  1. Raised temperature

  2. Continuous cough

  3. Loss of taste or smell

  • sanitise or wash your hands directly before and after group runs

  • avoid congregating, especially in front of PALC (we need to be mindful of gym users as well as ourselves)

  • meet up in designated spot (these spots will be allocated on the Facebook group event)

  • keep a 2m distance during meet times and keep a 2m distance during the run unless you are with members of your household

  • be mindful of pedestrians and, where possible and safe, make the move to keep your 2m distance
